Protecting your smile-
Good dental health is vital to keeping your body healthy all over

You’ve “brusha, brusha, brusha-ed”, seesawed through skeins of dental floss and gargled and swished faithfully, morning and night. A few swipes of your teeth are as routine as putting on lipstick- after all, you’ve been doing it your whole life- but will the status quo be enough to protect your pearly whites as you get older? (Brava Nov 2007)

The silver lining can be hard to spot when you’re lost in the cloud of a breast cancer diagnosis, but for Melissa Peterson, the battle to regain a normal appearance following mastectomy led to a new calling in life. (Brava Oct 2007)

Finding the perfect nanny- Umbrella optional

A night out on the town that doesn’t come with crayons and a side order of fries. A shower lasting long enough for the water to get hot- heck, maybe even a bubble bath. The freedom to pursue your career goals without guilt. (Brava Jan 2008)

Keeping the Peace- Learn how to lessen the friction of sibling rivalry and
promote brotherly (and sisterly) love
It was such a priceless moment. I was curled up on the couch with my children, flipping through a photo album with my 3-year-old daughter while my newborn son nursed contentedly...Then my daughter traced her finger along the freshly healed Caesarean scar on my abdomen and wistfully asked, “Can we put him back in?” (Brava Feb 2008)

Selecting the perfect summer camp
S’mores- that heavenly fusion of chocolate, graham cracker and toasted marshmallow- evoke memories of campfires, whispered secrets after lights-out and the pungently sweet smell of bug spray wafting through the air. (Brava March 2008)

Dreaming of a Good Night’s Sleep
When you have a baby, a good night’s sleep is like zipping up your skinny jeans- you can lie on your back, close your eyes and give it your best shot, but you’re still likely to come up a little short. (Brava April 2008)

Penny-wise
A sketch of a Hershey’s bar hangs on my refrigerator door, crayoned in the broad strokes of childhood that wander outside the lines yet show painstaking attention to detail. The squares of chocolate-shaded brown- purchased one by one, with hoarded allowance and the sacrifice of Saturday morning chores- represent months of my children’s savings. (Brava June 2008)

The Spirit of Volunteering
From a baby’s first cry to his first word- “Mine!”- a “me-first” attitude is a trademark of early childhood. After all, which is more likely to bring Mom or Dad running in the wee hours of the night- a whimper of protest or the toe-curling wails of a hungry baby sporting a soggy diaper? (Brava July 2008)
