Area scientist turns “cellular trash” into award from Bush
It takes guts to talk kitty litter with the President, but no one has ever accused Ahna Skop of being shy. 
Skop, an assistant professor of genetics and medical genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, recently shot the breeze with George W. Bush about presidential pets (there are apparently four kitty thrones in the White House) during a recent photo op on the White House steps. She, along with 57 other scientists from universities across the country received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest governmental award for young scientists.
